Fraxel is a new family of laser systems that allows both patients and physicians to benefit from the priceless gift of choice. With the two lasers, Fraxel re:store and Fraxel re:pair, you can decide how you want to attain the remarkable results that Fraxel treatments can deliver.

Like other resurfacing techniques, Fraxel improves skin imperfections such as, fine lines and wrinkles, scarring, pigmentation irregularities, sun induced redness, and to some degree, skin laxity. Unlike other techniques, Fraxel does so with little or at least much less recovery period. Fraxel works by emitting very small precise points of light into the skin surface. The laser penetrates deep into the skin to remove old, damaged skin cells, stimulates the body’s own natural healing process, and replaces the cells with fresh, healthy new skin. Because the technology is so precise, Fraxel treatments not only work on the face, but also on delicate skin areas like the neck, chest, and hands.

Both Fraxel re:store and Fraxel re:pair lasers have the same indications to treat the same conditions the main difference is in the depth of their penetration into the skin’s surface.

Fraxel re:store is a more superficial treatment which, depending on the condition of the skin and the location being treated, typically requires 3 to 5 sessions. These sessions are usually spaced 2 to 6 weeks apart. This treatment is generally well tolerated. Discomfort is minimized by topical anesthetic and cold air that is directed on the treatment area during the procedure. Following the treatment, most patients report feeling a sun burn sensation which usually subsides within a few hours. The mild recovery of Fraxel re:store consists of just a few days of pink, dry skin with some roughness and slight peeling of the skin surface.

Fraxel re:pair is a more aggressive, deeper treatment that requires only a single session. To achieve a comfortable treatment patients are administered oral medications and both topical and local anesthetics are used to numb the skin surface. Recovery period for the Fraxel re:pair is approximately one week of wound care which includes some degree to redness, swelling and peeling of the skin.

Results from both Fraxel re:store and Fraxel re:pair are both immediate and progressive. Soon after treatment the skin will feel softer, look brighter and show a more even tone. The results will continue to improve over the following 4 to 6 months after the treatment as the deeper layers of the skin continues to heal and remodel.
